How to Remove Rolex Links: A Straightforward Guide from My Experience

I recently bought a Rolex Explorer from the gray market and needed to adjust the bracelet.

If you're wondering how to remove Rolex links, I'll share what I learned from my experience and research.

First, know that you can always take your Rolex to an Authorized Dealer (AD) for a free adjustment, even if you bought it from the gray market. They have the right tools and expertise.

But if you're like me and want to do it yourself, here's what you need to know:

Tools matter. Rolex uses specific screws that require a special screwdriver. Don't use a generic toolkit from Amazon. I bought a quality 1.6mm flat-tip screwdriver, which was perfect for my Oyster bracelet.

Preparation is key. Rolex uses purple Loctite to secure the screws. You need to heat this up to release it. I used a lighter, moving it back and forth quickly over the link I wanted to remove. Don't hold the flame in one spot - you're not trying to bake the link.

Take your time. Rushing can damage your watch. Be patient and careful.

When reassembling, use purple Loctite (221 or 222) to secure the screws. This comes in the official Rolex sizing kit.

Remember, not every link on a Rolex bracelet is removable. The screw-in pins make it relatively easy to remove links, but you need to identify which ones can be taken out.

How to remove Rolex links isn't just about the physical process. It's about having the right tools, preparation, and patience.

If you're not confident, there's no shame in visiting an AD. They'll ensure your bracelet fits perfectly and even store extra links in your presentation box.

In my case, doing it myself was satisfying and not too difficult. Just remember: heat, right tool, careful handling, and Loctite when reassembling.

With these steps, you can adjust your Rolex bracelet for the perfect fit.
